Who is your client or your target market?

Who is your client or your target market?

target market Irrelevant on what profession or business you are in, you need to know who your target market is or who is the client you target.

The simple reason is that if you do not know who is the individual who is looking for the type of services and products you offer, you will not know where to find that person and you will not know how to approach her / him?

Here are some things you need to look at:

  1. Age range
  2. Gender
  3. Financial status
  4. Location
  5. Special needs / desires
  6. Ethnic background
  7. Educational background

There are also some personal characteristics which are beneficial to know such as:

  • What type of personality they have.
  • What are their attitudes, behaviour & values.
  • What’s their lifestyle, interest and hobbies.

Some equally important questions to ask are:

  • Are there enough people that need / want my service / product?
  • Can they afford my service / product?
  • Who is the decision maker in purchases?
  • Can they be easily reached with our message?
  • How will my service / product really serve them?

Putting all these into perspective will give you a clear image of what you need to do next, so these prospective clients / customers get to know about you and your service / product and are inspired to come to you and buy from you.

This process can be time consuming but it is worth the while. Because once you define your target market you will be saving yourself a lot of money and energy trying to reach the wrong people or reaching the right people with the wrong message.
