9 tips on how to remain motivated -even in the hardest of moments

Motivation is what keeps us going.  It is the reason people succeed and the reason people fail.  Motivation is the drive someone has to complete a task. For an entrepreneur however, this can be a hard thing to maintain as usually have only the self to rely upon for everything.

This is why having a plan to keep motivation in high levels and at all time is important. Here are few things you can do towards building up and maintaining motivation.

Set a goal and a deadline

By being very clear in what you want and by when you want to accomplish it will help you boost your desire to go for it, work for it – i.e. feel motivated. Make sure you set SMART goals (Specific – Manageable – Realistic – Time bound).

Keep good company

Make sure you are in the company of people that are positive, encouraging and believe in you and the things you can achieve.  The will assist you in holding your enthusiasm high and constant.

Count your successes

When things get tough and you see yourself loosing heart or becoming impatient make a list of all your successes in the past and come back to that list again and again.

Read inspirational stories and quotes

Find some time – even 10 minutes a day – to read about the exceptional achievements of other people.  This will give you hope and encouragement that things can be done since others did them.  The same goes for inspirational and motivational videos and audios.

Take rest and have fun

Tiredness and overwhelm kill motivation so make sure that you give yourself time to rest and enjoy life.  This will boost your energy physically, mentally and emotionally and you will continue with your efforts with higher spirits – i.e. with greater motivation.

Watch and re-direct your self talk

Self talk is going on inside our head all the time – either we are aware of it or not.  Self talk can either make you or break you.  It can either uplift you or crash you.  You don’t need any third person to do that – it’s all in your mind.  If you become aware of your self talk and catch yourself being negative or discouraging in any way: STOP IT and start telling a different story which will make you feel better within you.  This will also affect your performance.

Praise and reward yourself

Sometimes we take our abilities, skills and talents and wisdom for granted and we forget how special we are.  Because of that we do not show any great appreciation of all the small and big things we achieve everyday.  So, make sure every time you let your star shine, every time you have an achievement, you reach a goal or a milestone or you have done something good, pat yourself on the shoulder and congratulate yourself.  Feel good about who you are and what you accomplish and watch how you become more determined to achieve more – i.e. be more motivated.

Avoid the news, gossip and negative people

These things can only drag you down with them.  They have nothing to offer you, on the contrary you have plenty to lose.  By falling in their trap you will end up depressed, dishearten and sad.  Don’t let anyone or anything distract from your destination.  Your focus is on your dreams, your desires your goals.

Remind yourself the benefits

Sometimes we get so involved in the hardship of our efforts that we lose sight of the destination and why were need to do what we need to do.  Reminding yourselves on the benefits that await you when you reach your goal and you’ll find the courage to continue – i.e. be motivated.
